Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA): These injections are given over several months and last up to two years.

Polymethylmethacrylate beads (PMMA): This bad boy creates a permanent pucker but is also the riskiest.

Does It Hurt?

Just like with any injection into the skin this procedure can hurt. It also depends on the patient’s threshold of pain and the doctor’s technique.

Many physicians use a topical numbing medication that numbs the lips before going forward with the injections.
