Is Botox Safe?
The nature of the Botox treatment as a toxin has many wondering: Is Botox safe?
What is Botox?
Botox is a toxin that when injected in small doses can block the nerve signals that cause the muscles in your face to contract.
Once targeted, these muscles are able to release which erases any sign of a wrinkle.
Is Botox Safe?
While the botulinum toxin that Botox is comprised of is dangerous in large doses, small doses are completely safe for injection purposes.
In fact, the number of adverse effects of Botox reported between 1989 and 2003 was only 36.
Of those 36 cases, 13 of them are believed to have been a result of an underlying condition and thus not Botox related.
Where Is Botox Applied?
Botox is ideally used on wrinkles in the following areas:
- Crow’s feet
- Lines between the eyes
- Forehead lines
However, Botox can also be used to treat muscular conditions such as a lazy eye, eye twitching, chronic migraines, and even neck spasms.
Additionally, Botox is popularly used for hyperhidrosis, cerebral palsy, and overactive bladder.
Botox Side Effects
Although safe for use, there are some common side effects that may arise following your Botox treatment.
You may experience some pain, bruising, or swelling at the injection site.
Other patients experience headaches, fever, or chills.
These are all common and considered to be minor side effects which should resolve within a day or two.
Is Botox Permanent?
No, Botox is not a permanent treatment.
For best results, you should schedule follow up treatments with your injector once every three or four months.
